My Record & Vision

Over the past term, I’ve moved from ideas to action. I have made Vail more livable, sustainable, and vibrant while balancing growth and preserving what makes this place extraordinary.

Here is a comprehensive list from 2024, but my more current highlights are listed below.

2024 Town of Vail Year in Review

2024 Town of Vail 5 Year Strategic Plan

Livable Vail

Progress So Far:

  • Expanded locals housing: +600 new units under construction for rentals & ownership.

  • Supported the new Avon early childcare education center.

  • Expanded bus service in both summer and winter seasons.

Next Steps:

  • Finish Timber Ridge Village and Southface (West Middle Creek) homes with sound financial planning.

    • More housing supply will ultimately ease pressure on prices for both renters and buyers.

  • Prioritize innovative strategies to increase housing affordability.

  • Increase “missing middle” housing options, including development of the CDOT East Vail parcel into a Chamonix-style neighborhood and updating the INDEED program to align with the prices of today’s real estate market.

  • Expand childcare capacity through increased housing opportunities for caregivers and building a larger facilities for the two childcare facilities in town.

Sustainable Vail

Progress So Far:

  • Produced a Vail baby.

  • Set a RETT Fund reserve minimum for fiscal stability. This means things like parks, fire, recreation, open space, sustainability have financial safety to protect our way of life.

  • Advanced energy efficiency plan, wildfire resilience goals & single-use plastics ban policy discussion.

  • Protected community assets, including saving “Sam’s Tree” at Gore Creek Promenade. That’s a big healthy pine tree that was almost chopped down! Hoping to get a plaque in my next term :)

  • Managed a tight budget responsibly while investing in long-term priorities.

Next Steps:

  • Eliminate single-use plastics & expand commercial composting within the next three years while being mindful to minimize economic impacts to local businesses.

  • Enhance golf course for playability & river health.

  • Invest in renewable energy projects, such as geothermal heating and waste heat recapture, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Vibrant Vail

Progress So Far:

  • Revitalized public spaces and improved the Dobson ice arena to host more than just hockey events with enhanced lighting, sound, and concessions, while also supporting community organizations like the Vail Mountaineers & Vail Yeti.

  • Established a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) with both tourism and community goals - keep eyes peeled for the awesome new LoveVAIL campaign!

  • Strengthened community programming and public arts initiatives.

Next Steps:

  • Align land use regulations to retain local owned/serving businesses & recruit next-gen entrepreneurs.

  • Bring top-tier concerts and cultural events to Vail year-round, focusing on “the right event, right time, right place, and right funding.”

  • Expand recreation and wellness facilities to meet the needs of a growing community, including the nearly 1,000 new residents expected at West Middle Creek and Timber Ridge.

  • Support and grow Art in Public Places programs like the Art Battle and Artist-in-Residence events at the new Art Studio to elevate Vail’s creative scene.

  • Kick off the Stoke Sessions, early-season concert series, to energize the town each early winter when we are all STOKED & provide sales opportunities for local businesses vs. out of town event companies.

  • Grow a partnership with Vail Resorts to transform West Lionshead into a year-round, vibrant third base village, blending tourism with local life.
